One of the strongest practical arguments for Pattaya as a retirement base is that it has several large private hospitals within a short drive of most residential areas, plus specialist clinics and a large network of pharmacies.
The landscape
The area is served by a number of substantial private hospitals used to treating foreign patients, alongside public hospitals and a large number of clinics. For most residential areas — Jomtien, Pratumnak, Naklua, central Pattaya — you are within roughly fifteen to twenty-five minutes of a major private facility in normal traffic.
What to do in your first month
- Identify the nearest private hospital to your home and drive or ride the route once.
- Register as a patient and have a basic check-up so your records exist.
- Confirm which local hospitals your insurer direct-bills.
- Find a pharmacy near home that stocks what you take regularly.
- Put the hospital's number and your insurer's emergency line in your phone and on a wallet card.
